Art & Design
Our Intent
To foster creativity, imagination, and critical thinking through art, craft, and design, while also developing skills and knowledge of various techniques and artists, and understanding the historical and cultural context of art.
Implementation
- We use Access Art to create lessons that put children’s creative development at the heart of art. It has 3 main strands:
- Drawing and Sketch books
- Surface and Colour
- Working in 3 dimensions
- Access Art curriculum gives children more opportunities to explore and develop their own creativity. It encourages self-expression, experimentation, and problem-solving through a wide range of techniques and materials.
- By focusing on individuality and creative thinking, we aim to inspire confidence and a love for art.
- This approach ensures all children can develop their artistic skills in a way that is personal, meaningful, and engaging.

Impact
To inspire and nurture creativity, by providing children with the opportunity to explore their imagination while developing key skills in observation, technique, and expression. By engaging with a variety of materials, methods, and cultural influences, children will build confidence in their artistic abilities and develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Assessment
Every Art lesson has a question as its title. By the end of unit, children are expected at the very least to remember facts that will enable them to answer these questions. These forever facts are revisited at the beginning of art lessons and throughout the year, along with facts that have been taught in pervious year groups.
